Do you wanna see COCK? #WhatTheCock #RedTurnipPH

Yes! You read it right! COCK!

Cock is a story by Olivier award winning writer Mike Bartlett. The story revolves around a gay couple for 7 years and then broke up. Upon the span of being single, one of the gay characters (John) fell in love with a woman for the first time.  He needs to make a decision on  whom he will spend his life with and whom he needs to let go.

Cock is a mixture of dark comedy (of course coming from all the ironies and it's sarcasm) and drama.

Red Turnip Theater is proud to have a re-run of this event as it becomes one of the successful adaptations they brought in the Philippines stage. I am very honored and happy that I witnessed such an awesome act coming from Filipino talents. To give you more of what COCK is, here's the breakdown of the characters:

Topher Fabregas as John

Topper Fabregas, as John, epitomizes ambiguity and indecision. For 90 minutes, the audience watches him struggle between his male lover M and female lover W. In the hands of a less talented actor, John could easily come off as a heartless jerk, but Topper shows his neuroticism and genuine confusion.

Niccolo Manahan as M

As M, Niccolo Manahan is the soul of the play. Niccolo delivers M's acerbic lines in a way that is funny and heartbreaking at the same time. At first M comes off as the alpha male in the relationship, but then his vulnerability shines through. You can't help but root for M.

Jenny Jamora as W

Jenny Jamora, as W, is a worthy rival. Jenny portrays W's complexities, how she is both fragile and self-assured, gentle and tough.

Audie Gemora as F

Rounding off the talented cast is theater veteran Audie Gemora as F. Audie's portrayal of F-a father who unconditionally loves his son-is endearing. F arrives towards the end of the play, but he jumps in with guns blazing.

Here are some of the rave reviews from it's first staging:

I really love how the characters unravel themselves as the story goes on. The actors really delivered in terms of engaging the audience, building up the tension and keeping the energy all through out the run. Their effortless acting gives justice to this wonderful piece.

If you love confrontations, rhetorical questions, gender sensitive adaptation, well, Red Turnip Theater's Cock is for you! You shouldn't miss the FUN!
