#TheaterPH - A Special Preview Of Ballet Manila's Carmina Burana and La Traviata!
It was a beautiful Wednesday morning as we head to Star Hall at Star City in Pasay to attend Ballet Manila's special preview of their performance season-ender Carmina Burana and La Traviata. These performances will conclude the most unforgettable 24th season of the company.
With the classical elements from Carmina Burana and La Traviata, Ballet Manila is taking a different route as it takes on a production about tragedy, death and other inexorable fates of mankind. Based on a series of 13th-century songs, Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata while La Traviata is an Italian opera that tells the ill fated story of a beautiful young courtesan wasting away from tuberculosis and her relationship with a young bourgeois from a provincial family.
Taking in charge of Carmina Burana's choreography is Rudy de Dios, a former principal member of Ballet Manila while CEO and artistic director Lisa Macuja Elizalde brought the story of Violetta and Alfredo to life with her choreography of La Traviata.
Rudy de Dios admitted that he's still adjusting with wearing the choreographer's hat but he's confident being guided by best of the best in the industry. For Carmina Burana, he asked more time from Lisa for him to conceptualize and put the pieces together as he became critical with the steps and stories he would like to incorporate in the routines. Since this will be his first full length work, he would like it to be as flawless as possible. He draws inspiration from the music and how it affects him as person.
For La Traviata, Lisa incorporated additional characters based on her interpretation. One character you need not to miss is the Fortune Teller which exudes a commanding energy on stage. She will help unfold the story and fate of the other characters.
Romeo Peralta, Gerardo Francisco, Joan Sia and Gerardo Francisco leads the ensemble of Carmina Burana while Nicole Barroso, Abigail Oliveiro, Mark Sumaylo and Joshua Enciso leads La Traviata. Shows are scheduled on the March 7, 6pm and March 8 3pm at Samsung Hall, SM Aura Premier, Taguig.
