#FoodPH - How To Make Sushi Bake or Bake Sushi in 6 Easy Steps
Who would have thought that people will have unplanned time to discover and learn new skills? Some people are forced to explore different activities during the community quarantine due to Covid-19 pandemic. Others chose to take their overdue breaks they anticipated after being too busy with school or office work.
Cooking is one of my favorite things to do. My friends know that if I am not an I.T. professional, I'll be a chef. I still dream of having my own cafe in the future. I've been seeing a lot of social media posts about Sushi Bake (a deconstructed baked sushi) and I got curious. I did my research and found out that recipe blogs and foreign websites have been in on the Japanese-inspired casserole trend since 2015.
Having said that, today, I'll be sharing my own version of Sushi Bake. Measurements are not included since I want to make it exclusive.
Ingredients:
Cooked Rice
Rice Vinegar
Olive Oil
Kimchi
Gochujang
Mayonnaise
Chicken Franks
Crab Sticks
Apple
Cucumber
Sesame Seeds
Roasted Seaweed (nori)
Cheese
Sriracha Sauce
Step 1: On a bowl, combine cooked rice, rice vinegar, kimchi, Gochujang and a dash of olive oil. Mix until well combined. Set aside the mixture on a baking/aluminum pan. |
Step 2: Crush some crispy Nori and mix some sesame seeds. Put it on top of the rice mixture. |
Step 3: On a separate bowl, combine chopped crab sticks, chicken franks, apple, cucumber, cheese and mayonnaise. Mix well. |
Step 4: Pour in the mixture on top of the rice. Level it. Top it with more cheese and Sriracha sauce for a spicy kick. |
Step 5: Set the oven in 250 and broil it for about 10 minutes. |
Step 6: Open the pack of roasted seaweed. Scoop a hefty amount of the sushi bake onto your sheet of nori, fold it and enjoy it in one go! |
For this recipe, we don't have Furikake (mixture of dried fish, sesame seeds, chopped seaweed, sugar, salt, and monosodium glutamate.) so I just crushed some nori and mix it with sesame seeds. For a more delectable taste, you may substitute mayonnaise with cream cheese or sour cream.
Let me know on the comment section how's your experience on trying out this recipe. :)
Until the next foodie post!
