#MusicPH - Nicole Laurel Asensio Releases Her Newest Song, SILONG!
There are some songs that take years to write, and there are some songs that take mere minutes. This wasn’t one of them.
According to Nicole Laurel Asensio, Silong is a song she gave up on many times because it wouldn’t lend her an ending, it is also the only original song in her upcoming album that she did not predominantly write the lyrics for, instead she focused on the melody and being involved in instrumentation ideas with her bandmates.
Summer of this year, when she was cleaning up her hard drive, she found 49 unfinished songs and poems all work in progress. Silong happened to be on top of the list. Nicole decided to give it another shot but can't think of any words that would fit on the existing work she have. Given the situation she was in, she shared it to her great friend Itchie Montilla, an ex member of the Philippine Madrigal Singers.
They say that 2 heads are better than one. So one afternoon, Nicole decided to call her friends Michael Alba on drums, Karel Honasan on Bass, Ira Cruz on Guitar, Nikko Rivera on keys, Michael Guevarra on saxophone, Lester Sorilla on Trumpet and a few more others to collaborate. The arrangement was a group effort. after finalizing everything, Nicole decided to record it without thinking of releasing just yet.
Nicole had some doubts about the song at first because it was one of the out of the shelves unfinished work at first but she was very grateful with her friends who helped her create a masterpiece that is Silong. It was about to be released earlier this year until Covid happen.
Fast track to August 28, 2020, it is now streaming on Spotify and Apple Music!
Congrats Nicole for the gift of music and for sharing your talent to each and everyone of us.
