#ArtPH - I Like Wearing Rainbows: A Children’s Story on Acceptance and Love!
Weeks ago, I got a chance to finish a very raw, touching and revolutionary book from Looking For Juan. I Like Wearing Rainbows is a tale of unconditional love where readers will be transported into a roller coaster ride of emotions. The story is told through the eyes of a child as to how he views the colorful world written and painted in a 48 pager hardbound book.
This is a product of a one-of-a-kind competition where writers have been asked to come up with a story just by looking at an artwork made by LGBT rights advocate, Lui Manaig. There were 70 submissions but Agay Llanera won with "I Like Wearing Rainbows".
It's very inspiring how one painting can be an inspiration of a such a heart warming story. The integration was flawless and I was teary eyed before closing the last page of the book. Based on the insider report, Agay Llanera doesn't have any intention of joining the competition but for some reason, she found herself thinking of someone dear to her who liked wearing bright dresses when he was a little a boy and was moved to write the story.
Lui Manaig shares his experience coming out to his parents and it was not easy. With this painting, he would like this to be a step towards starting the conversation at an early age because kids needs their parents to accept them. It is their parents to be the first people to be there for them. Lui hopes that parents can teach their kids kindness, inclusion and be careful with their words as to not judge those who are not like them.
I am happy to take part of this initiative for awareness, and also as part of helping the disadvantaged communities received books through Looking for Juan's Buy-1-Donate-2 program. I Like Wearing Rainbows and other books may be purchased for 1,200 and every sale is matched by a donation to two Filipino kids.
Since 2019, Looking for Juan promotes public appreciation for Philippine art and culture, and champion children’s literacy. For more information about products or partnerships with Looking for Juan, email store@lookingforjuan.com. For updates, follow @lookingforjuan on Instagram and Facebook.
