#TechPH - How will HONOR conquer the Filipino market while stepping out of Huawei’s shadows?
Since HONOR's independence and return to the Philippines, the consumer technology company has made public their upcoming product lineups and own R&D facility. Without losing the knowledge they had acquired as a sub-brand of Huawei, the division allowed the company to increase its technology investments. With Huawei's standards and Google's backing, HONOR is anticipated to provide feature-rich consumer smartphones with ease.
Ecosystem with Google Mobile Services
The presence of Google Mobile Services is being seriously questioned by consumers due to the striking similarities between Huawei and HONOR products. For nations that rely on Google Apps the most, HONOR and Huawei phones are now less advisable. According to a Statista analysis, the majority of smartphone users in the Philippines—nearly 90%—use Android-based handsets.
The HONOR 50, the first smartphone featuring GMS, was released by HONOR in October 2021 and helped the company solidify its position as the third-largest smartphone seller in China.
All of Honor's smartphone models, from entry-level to mid-range to its premium foldables, are anticipated to launch with Google Apps and services.
Regarding the hardware, the smartphone series that the Filipino market plans to purchase in Q4 2022 are the HONOR X series, HONOR 70, and HONOR Magic Series.
HONOR’s rise to the top
According to an IDC analysis from Q2 2022, HONOR has overtaken Samsung as the leading mobile smartphone brand in China with a 19.5% market share, an increase of 88.6% over the same period in 2017 and 8.8% over the quarter before.
According to IDC, the brand's comprehensive positioning across numerous categories "enabled to continue its rapid growth," which helped it establish supremacy with the new HONOR 70 series. The entry-level segment's needs were also satisfied by the cost-effective Changwan 30 series and Play 6 series, while Honor was also able to increase its market share in the high-end >US$600 segment thanks to the Magic 4 series.
On building a fresh and separate identity
HONOR recently revealed its first self-funded factory demonstrating excellence to manufacture high-quality premium products.
Automated Arm at the HONOR Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park
“The opening of the HONOR Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park was a significant milestone of our success in integrating our R&D capabilities into our manufacturing processes. The consolidation allows us to better harness our expertise across both fields,” said George Zhao, CEO of HONOR Device Co, Ltd. “In addition to bolstering our manufacturing capacities, the smart manufacturing facility houses world-class production, testing and quality control equipment that ensures our premium products live up to our customers’ high expectations.”
Automation, digitalization, and intelligent technology serve as the cornerstones underpinning the Park’s core manufacturing capabilities. The Park operates with 75 percent of its production line automated, minimizing the risk of human error. Additionally, more than 40 percent of the automated production equipment is developed in-house, which serves as further evidence of the tight integration between R&D and manufacturing capabilities at the Park.
All key equipment in the production facility supports digital control systems, allowing HONOR to better manage the entire production line and reap better efficiency as well as improve product quality.
