#CulturePH - MakatiMed fights heart diseases with new and expanded Heart Station

The top hospital in the Philippines, Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed), is stepping up the fight against heart issues with the opening of its Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory Heart Station, also known as the Heart Station, at a new and upgraded location. Cardiovascular diseases are still the leading cause of death among Filipinos. 

MakatiMed cardiology consultant Benjamin N. Alimurung, MD; special speaker Senator Manuel Roxas, Co-President and CEO and Medical Director Saturnino P. Javier, MD; Director of the Professional Services Group Noel L. Rosas, MD; and Co-President and CEO and Chief Finance Officer Arnold C. Ocampo.

Under the direction of MakatiMed's Institute of Cardiovascular Learning and Care, which is committed to designing individualized care for cardiovascular patients, the new facility has been opened. A new cardiopulmonary exercise test equipment at The Heart Station, administered by cardiology expert Benjamin N. Alimurung, MD, examines one's capacity for activity and looks into complaints like shortness of breath. It also dedicates a child-friendly room for pediatric echocardiogram procedures to help identify congenital conditions and other possible abnormalities among kids. 

With its improved capacity, the Heart Station can now accommodate more patients for routine and life-saving diagnostic procedures like treadmill stress tests, echocardiograms, and electrocardiograms to help in the diagnosis of heart conditions and evaluation of their overall heart health. 

All procedures at the lab are administered by a highly capable and well-trained team of seasoned physicians, technologists, therapists, nurses, and support personnel. Each test is supervised by a board-certified cardiologist to maintain precision in results and ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care.

MakatiMed Co-President and CEO and Medical Director Saturnino P. Javier, MD emphasizes that the new Heart Station is a manifestation of the hospital’s commitment to strengthen the capabilities of its Cardiology Department. “The new improvements for the Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory-Heart Station mean a noticeable increase in our capability to serve more patients with quality healthcare,” says Dr. Javier. “It’s hard to overstate how important this is—for many cardiovascular diseases, catching things early makes a huge difference.”

The MakatiMed Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory Heart Station is now located at 1st Floor, Tower 1, near the Ayala North Exchange Bridgeway.
