Get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Spanish and Latin American cinema because the 23rd PELÍCULA>PELIKULA Spanish Film Festival is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever! Organized by Instituto Cervantes, this year’s festival promises a spectacular lineup of films and events that you won’t want to miss. Mark your calendars from October 5 to 13, 2024, and head over to the Red Carpet Cinemas at Shangri-La Plaza for an unforgettable cinematic experience.

Opening Night Extravaganza

The festival kicks off on October 5 with the much-anticipated screening of Pablo Berger’s award-winning animated film, Robot Dreams, at 7:30 PM. This heartwarming tale of a lonely dog and his robot companion has already wowed audiences at Cannes and was even shortlisted for the Oscars. But that’s not all! Before Robot Dreams, catch the screening of Fuenteovejuna at 4:30 PM, a captivating adaptation of Lope de Vega’s iconic play.

Fun for the Whole Family

On October 6, bring the kids along for a free animation workshop with Spanish filmmaker Mario Torrecillas at 10:00 AM in the grand atrium of Shangri-La Plaza. It’s a fantastic opportunity for young creatives to learn from a pro!

A Day of Diverse Screenings

The excitement continues on October 6 with a diverse lineup of films. Start your afternoon with Carmen at 2:30 PM, a flamenco-infused adaptation of Merimée’s classic tale. Follow it up with 7 mesas de billar francés at 5:00 PM, a touching story about Angela reviving her late father’s billiard hall. End your day with La llegada (Upon Entry) at 7:30 PM, a gripping drama about a couple detained at Newark airport.

Collect and Win!

As a special treat, the festival offers a bonus program: watch five films and receive exclusive merchandise from Instituto Cervantes de Manila. Just collect stamps on your Película ballots at each screening to earn your rewards!

More to Look Forward To

The fun doesn’t stop there! On Monday, October 7, at 1:00 PM, join Mario Torrecillas for his talk From Comics to Film, where he’ll discuss his journey from comic author to filmmaker. Then, at 2:30 PM, catch his film Loli Tormenta (2023).

On October 8, don’t miss the Q&A session with Luis Roca and Marta de Santa Ana, the creative minds behind the documentary Benito Pérez Buñuel. They’ll be joined by She Andes from Mapúa University School of Media Studies for an insightful discussion on documentary filmmaking.
