#TheaterPH - Dulaang UP Presents: “Nanay Bangis” - A Fierce Theatrical Experience This November!

Get ready for an unforgettable theatrical journey as Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (DUP) proudly presents “Nanay Bangis,” kicking off its 47th theater season from November 15 to December 1, 2024. This powerful play, directed by the talented J. William Herbert Sigmund Go and adapted by Rody Vera from Bertolt Brecht’s classic “Mother Courage and Her Children,” is set to captivate audiences with its gripping story and stellar performances.

A Story of Strength and Resilience

“Nanay Bangis” tells the poignant tale of a mother who faces the harsh realities of war, losing her children to the conflict between the MNLF and the Philippine army from 1971 to 1981. This Brechtian staging brings together seasoned UP alumni and emerging talents from the theater program, promising a performance that is both moving and thought-provoking.

Meet the Cast and Crew

Leading the cast is the incredible Ge Malacaman Villamil as Nanay Bangis, supported by the talented Air Paz, Rona Rostata, and Fred Layno. Director J. William Herbert Sigmund Go, a former Tanghalang Pilipino Artistic Director and Virgin Labfest Co-founder, returns to DUP to mentor and inspire the next generation of theater artists.

A Season of Tradition and Innovation

This season, subtitled “Amihan at Habagat,” explores the dynamic interplay of political and ecological themes in the Philippines. With productions under the banners of DUP CLASSICS and DUP INNOVATE, Dulaang UP continues to push the boundaries of traditional and contemporary theater.
