#CulturePH - Celebrating the Growing Meat Trade Between the UK and the Philippines

On November 14, 2024, the British Embassy Manila hosted a delightful evening at the British Ambassador’s Residence to celebrate the flourishing meat trade relations between the United Kingdom and the Philippines. This special event, organized by AHDB and the British Chamber, brought together 60 esteemed guests, including key figures from the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Trade and Industry, and prominent importers, retailers, and wholesalers.

A Night of Quality and Excellence

The evening was all about celebrating the themes of quality, authenticity, and excellence in British meat products. British Embassy Manila Political Counsellor Andy Bowes and AHDB’s International Trade Development Manager Richard Gibson warmly welcomed the guests, highlighting the valuable partnership between the UK and the Philippines in the beef and pork sectors.

Richard Gibson emphasized the importance of building and maintaining business connections in the meat trade, noting that the Philippines is the UK’s third-largest export market for pork. He shared, “The meat trade is all about people – engaging with contacts in-market and building and maintaining business connections to maximize opportunities.”

Showcasing Premium British Meat

Guests were treated to a showcase of premium British beef and pork, with carving demonstrations that highlighted the exceptional care and practices in UK farming. The event underscored the benefits of UK meat, which is renowned for its high standards of animal health and welfare. Attendees appreciated the quality and health benefits of British meat, making it a standout choice for Filipino consumers.

Strengthening Connections and Looking Ahead

This gathering not only celebrated the successes of 2024 but also set the stage for continued collaboration and growth in 2025. Richard Gibson expressed optimism for the future, stating, “We look forward to continuing working collaboratively with industry and government to develop these important business relationships and build on the UK pork sector's positive momentum in the Philippines.”

A Year of Success and Opportunities

The 3rd Philippine-British Meat Trade Mission Year-end Gathering capped off a year filled with achievements. Highlights included the presence of UK exporters at WOFEX in Manila and a 24% increase in UK pork shipments to the Philippines, amounting to over £21.8 million from January to July 2024. Additionally, the recent lifting of the temporary ban on beef presents exciting opportunities for meat importers to take advantage of the premium quality of British meat.

Continuing the Mission

As the event concluded, it was clear that the British Chamber, AHDB, and the entire British farm supply chain, along with Philippine importers, are committed to providing high-quality products and fostering strong trade relations.
