#CulturePH - EastWest Employee-Athlete Shines at International Dragon Boat Championships
The EastWest family is beaming with pride as one of their own, Peter Arreglado, made waves at the 2024 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championships in Puerto Princesa. Peter, a dedicated member of the Cebu office’s Real and Other Properties Acquired (ROPA) team, played a pivotal role in leading the Philippines to a historic victory.
A Historic Win for the Philippines
The Philippines dominated the medal standings, clinching an impressive 11 gold medals. Peter himself brought home three medals: a silver in the 200-meter small boat, and two bronzes in the 500-meter small boat and 2000-meter standard boat. His journey from an active paddler since 2019 to competing on the world stage is truly inspiring.
Balancing Work and Passion
Peter’s participation in this prestigious event was made possible by the unwavering support of EastWest. The company provided him with a flexible work schedule and additional financial assistance, ensuring he could focus on his intensive training. “EastWest’s support in my training made it possible for me to focus on what mattered—giving my best performance at the World Championships,” Peter shared.
Teamwork and Resilience
The values of teamwork, resilience, and strong leadership that are central to dragon boat racing align closely with EastWest’s corporate culture. “Dragon boat racing is a team sport that requires unity and persistence, values I experience every day in my work at EastWest,” Peter explained. His success is a testament to the supportive environment at EastWest, which empowers employees to pursue their passions both professionally and personally.
Inspiring the Community
Peter hopes his achievements will inspire his colleagues and the broader EastWest community to engage in more athletic pursuits and strive for excellence. “I hope that my achievements encourage other sports enthusiasts among EastWest’s workforce, showing that the bank is wholeheartedly supportive of our interests beyond the workplace,” he added.
Looking Ahead
Peter envisions more opportunities to represent both the country and EastWest in future competitions, with hopes to participate in upcoming invitational races abroad and continue his dragon boat journey at the next World Championships in Canada.
