#Theater PH - "A Journey of Hope: Inside Sandosenang Sapatos

As I stood in the long waiting line prior to the start of the open house, I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. The anticipation was palpable, and I knew I was in for a treat. The buzz of the crowd, the chatter of eager theatergoers, and the occasional glimpse of the stage through the open doors only heightened my excitement.

I had watched an excerpt of this play before, where the characters wore roller blades, and it left a lasting impression on me. The colorful costumes and challenging choreography were etched in my memory, and I was eager to see how it would be presented this time.

"Sandosenang Sapatos" is a heartwarming musical based on the children's book by Dr. Luis Gatmaitan. The story revolves around Susie, a young girl born without feet, who dreams of fulfilling her shoemaker father's wish of having a ballerina for a daughter. Her journey is filled with dreams, challenges, and the unwavering love of her family. The play beautifully captures the essence of hope, love, and determination.

In past performances, "Sandosenang Sapatos" has been lauded for its emotional depth and vibrant presentation. The use of roller blades in previous shows added a unique element to the choreography, making it both challenging and visually stunning. This time, the production did not disappoint. The costumes were as colorful as I remembered, and the choreography was executed with precision and grace.

Kyle Felicity Napuli's performance as Susie was nothing short of spectacular. She was the point and center of the play, and her heartfelt characterization of Susie brought the audience to tears. Her portrayal was both powerful and moving, capturing the essence of Susie's dreams and struggles.

Sarah Monay's performance as Whitey was particularly noteworthy. She brought elegance and grace to the character, making Whitey a standout in the ensemble. MC Delac Cruz as Sandals was equally impressive, bringing a laid-back charm to the role that resonated with the audience.

Overall, Tanghalang Pilipino's "Sandosenang Sapatos" was a delightful experience. The combination of heartfelt performances, vibrant costumes, and intricate choreography made it a night to remember. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend catching a performance. It's a beautiful reminder of the power of dreams and the love of family.

"Sandosenang Sapatos" will run from November 15 to December 8, Fridays to Sundays, at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez. Tickets, priced at P2,060 for VIP and P1,545 for Regular, can be purchased through Ticketworld.
