#TheaterPH - Discover the Magic of “Mga Kuwento ni Juan Tamad” with Alice Reyes Dance Philippines

Get ready for a delightful new adventure in children’s dance theater! Alice Reyes Dance Philippines (ARDP) is thrilled to present “Mga Kuwento ni Juan Tamad,” a captivating production designed especially for young audiences. This enchanting performance is the latest addition to ARDP’s rich repertoire of Filipino works, promising a magical experience for kids and families alike.

A New Dance Adventure

“Mga Kuwento ni Juan Tamad” marks a significant milestone for ARDP choreographer Erl Sorilla, who has not only crafted the book but also his first full-length choreography. The production features a mesmerizing musical score by award-winning singer-songwriter Toto Sorioso and stunning sets and costumes designed by the renowned Filipino director and Broadway designer, Loy Arcenas.

Guided by Legends

Under the mentorship of National Artist for Dance Alice Reyes and ARDP Artistic Director Ronelson Yadao, this production brings to life the adventures of Juan Tamad, the misunderstood boy in town, and his loyal monkey companion, Matsing. Together, they embark on a quest to find the village’s most prized treasure, the “Gintong Niyog,” stolen by the greedy Buwaya. Along the way, Juan learns valuable lessons from various animals, including those from the stories of “Pagong at Kuneho,” “Ang Gamu-gamu at ang Lampara,” and “Buwaya at ang Paboreal.”

A Star-Studded Cast

The production features ARDP company dancers Renzen Arboleda as Juan Tamad and Karla Santos as Maria Masipag. Dan Dayo takes on the role of Matsing, with John Ababon as Pagong, Monica Gana as Kuneho, Earl John Arisola as Buwaya, Krislynne Buri as Paboreal, and Francia Alejandro as Lampara. ARDP trainees Gianna Hervas and Crizza Urmeneta also join the cast as the Gamu-gamu.

An Educational Experience

“Mga Kuwento ni Juan Tamad” is not just a performance; it’s an enriching educational experience that aligns with Grade 1-10 and High School subjects, including Filipino, Arts, Music, Humanities, Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao, Personal Development, Araling Panlipunan, and Physical Education. Through dance and storytelling, this production offers a multidisciplinary approach to learning.
