#CulturePH - Bringing Clean Water and Resilience to Bantayan Island with Pru Life UK

We have some heartwarming news to share. Pru Life UK has launched an incredible initiative called "Ulan Alang sa Bantayan" (Rain for Bantayan), aimed at providing clean water and building long-term community resilience for the residents of Bantayan Island, Cebu.

A Lifeline for Bantayan Island

For years, families on Bantayan Island have faced the challenge of limited access to clean water, often walking long distances to fetch it. But thanks to Pru Life UK's new program, this is about to change. The "Ulan Alang sa Bantayan" initiative has built two rainwater harvesting systems in Barangays Sulangan and Maricaban. These systems, along with the distribution of water containers like pails and jugs, will provide over 540 families with a 2,000-liter supply of clean water, eliminating the need for exhausting trips. Plus, locals will receive training to ensure these facilities remain effective for years to come.

Empowering the Community

Pru Life UK is not just about providing immediate relief; they are committed to equipping communities with the tools and knowledge to thrive. As part of the program, Pru Life UK volunteers and residents teamed up for a coastal clean-up, helping restore Bantayan’s marine beauty.

To inspire the next generation, Pru Life UK also gifted 200 Bantayanon youth with copies of their newly released climate and health comic book, "Maging Handa: A Story of Adaptation and Resilience Amid Climate Change." This engaging story helps young people understand the connection between climate change, health, financial security, and resilience, making complex issues easy to grasp.

A Partnership for a Better Future

The "Ulan Alang sa Bantayan" program is a result of a partnership with the Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST), continuing a collaboration that started with Project Padayon, a COVID-19 recovery initiative. Pru Life UK's longstanding support for Bantayan Island began with the multi-year house build project of Prudence Foundation, helping residents whose homes were devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda. Since then, the company has continued to support its adopted communities through annual holiday outreach with employee volunteers.
