Held on March 22 at Club Echelon, this event brought together some of the best dancers in the region, all vying for a coveted spot at the Red Bull Dance Your Style National Finals.

A Night of Dance and Excitement

The atmosphere was buzzing with energy as dancers showcased their skills in various styles, from hip-hop and house to waacking and popping and locking. Red Bull Dance Your Style is known for its unique 1-on-1 battle format where the crowd decides the winner, adding an extra layer of excitement to every move and musical interpretation.

Meet SUJI: The First Finalist

After an intense series of battle rounds, SUJI emerged victorious, impressing the crowd with their technical mastery and commanding stage presence. “My mindset was plain and simple,” said SUJI. “I didn’t have much expectation, I just wanted to be here.” With this win, SUJI has become the first official finalist for this year’s Red Bull Dance Your Style National Finals in Cebu.

A Journey of Self-Discovery

For SUJI, the competition was more than just about winning. “All I have is dance, and I wanted to push through,” they shared. SUJI’s journey was also about self-discovery and understanding how a person’s mind works through dance. “I see it as two dancers communicating; it’s more than just movement. There is no verbal connection, only kinesthetics.”

Preparing for the National Finals

As SUJI prepares for the National Finals, their focus remains on staying true to themselves. “For me, I just want to stick to something that I’m already sure of,” they said. “Win or lose, I’m after the experience. I want to see how people would react to what I do or what I offer during the competition.” The key to winning, according to SUJI, is “to be yourself and to be authentic with your intentions.”

What’s Next?

After the excitement in Davao, Red Bull Dance Your Style is headed to Manila for the second regional qualifier on April 25. Registrations for the Manila and Cebu Qualifiers are now open, so if you’re a dancer looking to showcase your skills, this is your chance!
