#CulturePH - SM Supermalls' 'Trash to Cash' Initiative: Empowering Communities for a Waste-Free Future

If you're passionate about sustainability and making a positive impact on the environment, then you'll love what SM Supermalls is doing. Their 'Trash to Cash' (TTC) initiative is transforming communities and helping build a waste-free future, one recyclable at a time.

A Hub of Sustainability

Every first Friday and Saturday of the month, SM Supermalls across the nation turn into bustling hubs of sustainability. The TTC recycling market allows individuals to exchange their recyclable waste for cash, making it a win-win for both the environment and your wallet. This initiative is part of SM Supermalls' long-running Waste-Free Future campaign, which has been encouraging waste segregation, recycling, and environmental awareness since 2007.

Making a Tangible Impact

The impact of TTC has been nothing short of remarkable. In 2024 alone, the initiative collected over 12 million kilograms of recyclables, generating more than ₱28 million in earnings for participants. That's equivalent to saving 204,000 trees if all the recyclable waste were paper or reducing 18,000 tons of carbon emissions if it were plastic. TTC is more than just a recycling program—it's a movement that empowers individuals, organizations, and businesses to make sustainability a rewarding and community-driven practice.

Join the Movement

Participating in TTC is easy and accessible. With 87 SM malls nationwide hosting the program, you can conveniently drop off your recyclable materials such as paper, plastic bottles, and more. By ensuring that recyclables are properly sorted and repurposed, TTC actively contributes to the circular economy and reinforces SM Supermalls' commitment to responsible environmental stewardship.

A Call to Action

As climate challenges continue to grow, initiatives like TTC show that small actions, when done collectively, can lead to significant environmental impact. By participating in this program, you can help fight waste pollution, support the circular economy, and take a meaningful step toward a more sustainable future.

How to Get Involved

Ready to join the TTC movement? Simply segregate your recyclable waste and bring it to any participating SM mall. For more details on how you can contribute to a cleaner, greener future, visit the SM Supermalls official website and follow @SMCaresOfficial on social media.
