#MusicPH - SOS Shows Grace in Endings with ‘Yumi & The Apocalypse’ Ahead of Sophomore Album
Get ready to dive into the latest from indie alternative band SOS. They’re back with a brand-new single, “Yumi & The Apocalypse,” which is the lead track from their upcoming sophomore album, It Was A Moment, set to drop on March 28th. This new single blends old, familiar sounds with fresh, experimental styles, showcasing SOS’s knack for strong storytelling and emotional depth.
A New Chapter in Music
“Yumi & The Apocalypse” is all about reflecting on endings with grace. While it’s a song about a breakup, it’s told with more acceptance and less spite. The band describes it as having “a stroke of sadness” balanced with a mellowed maturity. Originally written with a different chorus by vocalist Roberto Seña, the track features standout rearrangements by Ram Alonzo (keys) and King Puentespina (drums), who also work on synths. The track even includes a trumpet performance by Kiddo Cosio, the owner of the beloved El Union coffee shop and roastery.
Staying True to Their Roots
Despite the evolving sound, “Yumi & The Apocalypse” still delivers SOS’s classic “guitars, angsty but melancholic singing.” The band draws inspiration from various sources, creating a dynamic sound palette that stays true to their identity. They’re not focused on making a pop hit but rather on expressing their stories and emotions. As they put it, “We’re always just trying to amuse ourselves at this point. If it lands, it lands. We’re just happy to be in the studio and bring life to whatever stories we have to tell.”
Anticipation Builds for the New Album
This single arrives ahead of the highly anticipated release of their second album, It Was A Moment. It follows their critically acclaimed 2017 debut LP, Whatever That Was, and is their first full-length release since the addition of Alonzo in 2023.
