Today, I’m thrilled to share a heartwarming story from one of my favorite places, Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay. This iconic hotel, known for its breathtaking views and exceptional hospitality, is taking significant steps towards sustainability. And guess what? They’ve just introduced a delightful new dish that’s not only delicious but also eco-friendly!

Introducing Malunggay Pancit Verde

Imagine savoring a plate of Malunggay Pancit Verde—a fresh, vibrant twist on the classic Filipino merienda. This dish is packed with the goodness of malunggay, a nutrient-rich superfood, and is made with locally sourced ingredients. It’s part of Taal Vista Hotel’s ‘Plate for the Planet’ initiative, which aims to support sustainable dining and local farmers. 

Sustainable Dining at Its Best

Taal Vista Hotel has truly embraced the garden-to-table philosophy. By sourcing local and seasonal ingredients, they’re reducing food miles and supporting nearby farmers. The Malunggay Pancit Verde is a perfect example of this commitment. It’s not just a meal; it’s a statement about caring for our planet.

But the hotel’s efforts don’t stop at the dining table. They’ve implemented several eco-friendly practices that make a real difference:

• Locally Sourced Ingredients: Supporting small-scale farmers and reducing carbon emissions.
• Waste Reduction: Mindful dining practices to manage food waste.
• Eco-Conscious Operations: Using the ORCA biodigester to convert food waste into a liquid safely discharged into the sewer system.

Beyond the Plate: Hotel-Wide Sustainability

Taal Vista Hotel’s dedication to sustainability extends throughout the entire property. They’ve upgraded to energy-saving air-conditioning units and LED lighting, conserving energy across all 262 guest rooms. Water conservation is also a priority, with rainwater harvesting and water-efficient fixtures in place.

In a bid to minimize plastic waste, the hotel has replaced single-use toiletries with dispenser systems, saving a significant amount annually. They’ve also swapped plastic water bottles for refillable glass pitchers, contributing to a greener environment.

A Commitment to a Greener Future

In 2024, Taal Vista Hotel recorded 5,021 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. With an ambitious goal to reduce this by 10% in 2025, they’re aligning their efforts with SM Hotels and Conventions Corp.’s sustainability objectives. It’s all about making impactful changes while maintaining the warmth and hospitality that guests love.

Taal Vista Hotel believes that sustainability is a shared responsibility. Guests are encouraged to participate in eco-friendly practices, like using their own tumblers, joining the towel and linen reuse program, and practicing mindful dining at the buffet.
